Contrary to popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s Independence Day. Instead it commemorates the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over the occupying French. In America, however, we use it as a celebration of Mexican culture. By that, we mean we hold Chihuahua races.
The City of Chandler’s annual Cinco de Mayo Festival honors the local Hispanic community’s contributions to the city with a showcase of custom low riders, live entertainment, and a celebration of all things Chihuahua. Watch the li’l dogs battle it out in races and a contest for festival king and queen; pick up a t-shirt from the Chihuahua Store; then adopt a new friend from HALO Animal Rescue. ¡Viva la Chihuahua!
