If you were wandering around downtown Phoenix over the weekend, you may have noticed a few colorful additions to chain-link fences.
“Random Acts of Art,” in the shapes of found images and ephemera, were posted by a group that calls itself The Downtown Phoenix Mothership on a route from Second Avenue to Second Street and in and around Roosevelt Row.
“The Mothership exists to strengthen downtown Phoenix and to encourage an environment of high weirdness, creative activity, and true vitality,” write local founders Stacey Champion and Pete Petrisko. “To accomplish this, the Mothership provides enhanced cultural services to this area, including street performance, ephemeral art action and unexpected community development.”
The self-guided tour is best on bike. All 15 stops include artwork displayed on empty and fenced off properties around downtown and follow the running story of characters Dot and Trixie on their first “urban adventure.”
