Since there’s really no better accessory than a cocktail in your hand, each week Jackalope Ranch brings you a tasty adult beverage from one of our favorite drinking establishments, complete with recipe. This week: The House Gin and Tonic at the Tuck Shop.
John Cavanagh‘s serious about tonic. The general manager of Tuck Shop is also the creator of a line of syrup, which he uses in every Gin and Tonic ordered inside the cozy Phoenix restaurant/bar.
On any given night, Cavanaugh’s floating around the spot’s dozen or so tables, checking on orders and answering questions. While we couldn’t get him to dish on the exact amounts of organic agave nectar, cinchona bark, citric acid, natural oils, herbs, juice, and spices that he uses in his syrup, he did give us a few pointers on how to serve up the best G&T in town.
1 10oz. tumbler packed with preferred ice.
1.5oz. Hendrick’s Gin
.5oz. John’s PremiumŽ tonic syrup (adjust amount to personal preference)
Top off with soda water (he prefers fresh from a soda siphon, but says you can
add any sparkling favorite),
garnish with a cucumber slice
and enjoy!
(Note: If you’re out on the town, just order a gin or vodka and soda and add 1/2
oz. of syrup and stir.)
To enjoy the tonic on its own, mix a ratio of .5 oz. of tonic syrup to every 3 oz. of
soda water.
John’s PremiumŽ can be found online or purchased at Tuck Shop,
2245 N. 12th St.
