Let’s be honest: In terms of what happens on the field, college football is an inferior product. The level of play and the coaching are several cuts below what the NFL puts out. Where the college game makes up ground is everything happening off the field. College football is a communal event, and the parades, pep rallies and general pageantry of a major bowl game are unmatched by anything in professional sports.
With that in mind, one could argue that the real show for this week’s Cactus Bowl between Oklahoma State and Washington comes before kickoff. The Oasis Pregame Party at Lot 3 of Sun Devil Stadium, 500 East Veterans Way, will feature live music, performances from both bands, and, essentially dueling pep rallies. Admission to the event also includes a free meal.
The party will start at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, January 2. Tickets are $25 and are available at www.fiestabowl.org.
