Andrea Beesely-Brown’s much-anticipated “community cinema and commissary” in Mesa will finally open its doors to local movie buffs on Friday, July 8.
Beesely-Brown, a.k.a. The Midnite Movie Mamacita, says there’s still plenty of things left to be done over the next week, including arranging seating, mounting the screen, and some painting.
“It’s definitely still a work in progress,” she says, laughing. “We’re pretty sure we can get everything done by next Friday.”
With a little caffeine and some chutzpah, however, she’s confident they’ll be able to finish readying The Royale for its debut.
Grand opening festivities will include a screening of the Rutger Hauer action/exploitation flick Hobo With a Shotgun, a costume contest with prizes for the best hobo outfit, and some other things as well, which she’s still needs to think up.
“That’s next on the list,” Beesely-Brown says.
