Eric Coble’s play The Velocity of Autumn, which ran in Washington, DC, and on Broadway last year, is about an elderly painter who refuses to leave her Manhattan home when her children decide it’s time for her to move somewhere more suitable to her physical and mental state. The Molotov cocktails our heroine has prepared complicate matters. The son who climbs a tree and manages to converse with her is the one child she hasn’t seen in decades. And autumn – well, it’s rolling in a lot more rapidly than you realize.
