Raising money for a worthy cause can mean anything from running a marathon to miles of bike riding to racing your pet ferret. But for those of us less mobile and weasel-less, the AIDS Walk A-Go-Go makes it easy to give green: drink alcohol.

“We wanted to get the word out to a wide variety of people, and the bar scene’s got that,” says event planner for Sway Events, Helena Grayson. Sway’s responsible for organizing the fundraiser, now in its second year.

Hardly a walk unless you’re making your way to a bar stool, AIDS Walk A-Go-Go partners with local drinking establishments throughout Phoenix who contribute a portion of the evening’s proceeds to AIDS Walk and Aunt Rita’s Foundation. Raising more than $3,000 in 2009, this year’s 16 neighborhood establishments include Charlie’s, BS West, Bar 1, Roscoe’s, Kobalt, and Cash Inn Country.
