One of the most famous speculative fiction writers of our time is also one of the most loathed. When local mom-slash-novelist Stephanie Meyer decided to draft out her fantasy of dreamy pedo-vamp Edward Cullen, she was met with more than a little animosity.
“Hey, vampires don’t sparkle!” they said. And they would be right. Vampires are soulless, undead, blood sucking creatures with pasty skin and twisted methods of getting the blood they crave to survive. The crowd at CopperCon 31 knows that.
These nerds specialize in vampires, werewolves (not of the muscle-bound hunky kind), demons, and, lest we forget, aliens. The three-day convention includes an appearance by Carrie Vaughn, New York Times bestselling author of the Kitty series of she-wolf novels, and a short story contest for aspiring local writers.
Sometimes it’s difficult to tell the Twilight fans from the real sci-fi geeks, so you better bring a stake. Just kidding. Don’t stab anyone.
