School might be out for summer, but dusting off your haboob-ified pencil and notepad will do you some good this July. Phoenix is rife with educational opportunities (and lots are free). Here are three mind-expanding events you need to check out.

“Pyromaniacs Anonymous: How Fireworks…Work” @ Arizona Science Center After chillaxing on the Fourth and marveling at a fireworks production, grownups will have the chance to light up their synapses during Arizona Science Center‘s Adult’s Night Out. This First Friday, the educational hub promises an analysis of the celebratory chemical reactions behind fireworks.

Pyro Production Manager for Fireworks Productions of Arizona Kendon Victor will also talk about how attendees can get involved with professional fireworks. The talk will take place from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 5. The free event’s seating is first-come, first-served. Register via Arizona Science Center’s website.
