Ask any woman what topped her childhood birthday wish list, and chances are good that it was a pony. Whether it was a plastic My Little Pony or a shaggy Shetland, that little horse represented one step toward princess-hood.

This weekend’s three-day Arizona Ponies of the Americas Regionals and Western Classic competition at WestWorld doesn’t feature any royalty, but it does boast real-life ponies that know more than one trick.

“We do just about everything there is to do in the competition,” says Lisa Thunberg, the group’s vice president. That includes a slew of equestrian events like halter, English, and gymkhana.
