Welcome to the Morning Buzz, a catch-up on interesting happenings around the city and country and a quick guide to what (and who) to keep your eyes on. We’ll be here, first thing every weekday, to get you going. Here’s what’s buzzing this morning:

When the local chapter of design organization AIGA teamed up with the film junkies at downtown’s FilmBar for a monthly film series, we knew we were in for a treat. On the last Monday of every month, AIGA and FilmBar feature a film about typography, industrial design, architecture, fine art, or graphic design.

Tonight, the team will screen Handmade Nation, a documentary by artist Faythe Levine that captures the wave of handmade crafts and designs that have seen their own pop-up stores, traveling fairs, and Etsy explosions.

For the film, Levine traveled more than 19,000 miles — to 15 cities across the county — to talk to the creatives behind the movement about their inspirations, processes, and products.

The film starts at 7:30 p.m. (though organizers recommend you stop by before 6:30
p.m. to take advantage of happy hour) at FilmBar, 815 North Second Street. Tickets are $5 at the door. Check out the Handmade Nation Facebook event page for more info.
