If you tear yourself away from watching Olympic events this weekend (you know you’re stoked for the trampoline and race walking events) or playing flip-cup in honor of them, here are your best bets for a good time.
Scream Screening @ FilmBar
Becky B brings Wes Craven’s Scream and all its ’90s camp to FilmBar, complete with hold the phone trivia and a blood-curdling scream war. Scary stuff starts at 11:30 p.m. on Friday. Tickets are $10.
Pyramid Country Show @ Cowtown Skateboards
Bobby Green, Jackson Casey, and JJ Horner will launch their new skatewear brand, Pyramid Country, at Cowtown on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. On display will be the sculptures and artwork associated with the brand. Organizers promise free beer and grub, as well as a contest for best trick in the shop’s parking lot.
Zombie Beach Party @ Rips Ales & Cocktails
Apparently, the afterlife’s a beach. Embrace your undead tendencies, put on some swimwear, and get a zombie makeover at Rips on Saturday. There will be a best costume contest, drink specials (Brainy Alexanders, anyone?), a photo booth, and horror films on the TVs. Cover is $5.
Arizona’s Got Dance! Workshops @ Terpsicore Dance Studio
Move and groove in honor of National Dance Day. Local dancers will lead workshops on styles including salsa, jazz, and krump from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Terpsicore. Admission is $10 per class or $60 for the whole day.
Robots Pic-A-Nic @ CityScape
Sunday’s the day the robots will have their picnic. Dress up in droid duds for a bring-your-own-basket al fresco dinner, hosted by Downtown Phoenix Mothership, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the park at CityScape. Attendees are encouraged to bring sporting goods, blankets, and instruments, for an unplugged jamboree. The event is free and open to the public.
