Dr. Diabolic’s Traveling Roadshow & Fun-Time Variety Hour @ Phoenix Art Museum
Evil mastermind Dr. Diabolic hosts with Becky B round two of this freaky roadshow, featuring local performers. The evening’s festivities include screening episode two of ’40s serial The Crimson Ghost, Thrill The World dancers getting down to M.J., a (Jell-O) brain munching contest, and a Vaudevillian-style cabaret performance from burlesque troupe Provocatease.
Get weird at Phoenix Art Museum‘s Whiteman Hall on Friday at 7 p.m. Tickets to the 16-plus show are $15; museum admission is free.
Rare Bird Fashion Show @ Monarch Theatre
Designer Tiffe Fermaint will be on the prowl, camera in hand, hunting for the best-dressed women attending Nostra Style House‘s Rare Bird fashion show. After the event, pics will be posted on Facebook and fashionistas will vote for their faves. The lady deemed most stylish will win a dress from Keepsake.
When they aren’t mugging for the camera, attendees will take in a performance from modern troupe Dulce Dance Company, followed by a runway show featuring designs from Arte Puro, Gentle Fawn, and more. Flamenco Por Vida’s Angelina Ramierez will close the show, which starts at 9 p.m. at Monarch Theatre. Ladies pay no cover. Guys pay $10 after 10:30 p.m.
“No Strangers: The Art Intersection Creative Community” @ Art Intersection
See works from Art Intersection members, staff, and select youth summer class students in the gallery’s latest show, “No Strangers.”
The exhibition opens on Saturday with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is free. It will remain on view through Saturday, August 25.
Pre-Season Football Viewing Party @ Firehouse
Get in on some pre-season NFL action when Firehouse hosts a screening party on Sunday at 6 p.m. The Cardinals will take on the Saints, while patrons take in the game on three projection screens and 20 TVs, in addition to drink and grub specials, including $3 bottled beer until 10 p.m. and half-off apps until 8. There’s no cover.
East Coast Swing Workshop @ Fatcat Ballroom
Learn the ins and outs of the six-count Lindy with Steve Conrad and Sarah Breakiron when the duo hosts three classes on the subject beginning with fine tuning your moves, then progressing to turns and slides, and finally perfecting your moves. Get into the swing of things from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Fatcat. All levels and ages are welcome; no partners required. The cost is $12 per class or $30 for the full workshop.
