Traffic is something Phoenicians battle every day. Some deal by listening to classical tunes in the frigid air of their Beamers. Others “go green” — and turn red from heatstroke — by biking. The unfortunates swelter in their classic VW Bugs, wishing for sweet, sweet death.
With transportation such a heated (no pun intended) issue in metro Phoenix, it’s no wonder the ASU Art Museum went with a show like “What Moves Us: Art of Transportation from the Permanent Collection” for its 11th annual Family Exhibition. The exhibition includes a playful biking print by Graciela Rodo Boulanger and a lithograph showing the evolution of transport by Luis Jimenez. “We decided to go with the transportation theme because so many aspects of it are present in everyone’s lives,” says curator Jean Makin. “It is a way to show the museum visitor that artists respond to what is around them.”
