It’s called the Wild West for a reason. How soon we forget that cowboys were a small part of it since Native Americans originally ruled this wilderness.

This weekend, it’s time to pay tribute to the original peoples during the Mesa Pow Wow. The annual, inter-tribal gathering of Native Americans from across the Western United States kicks off at 8 p.m. Friday, October 29, with a free concert by the band Clan/destine. Dance competitions, Native American art vendors, and authentic Indian cuisine continue from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, October 30, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, October 31.

Fri., Oct. 29, 8 p.m.; Sat., Oct. 30, 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; Sun., Oct. 31, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., 2010
