What separates nude art from porn? The observer? The intent? Or, in the words of Family Guy’s Peter Griffin, “a government grant”? ASU assistant professor and controversial photographer Betsy Schneider kicked up a virtual shit storm last summer when New Times published artistic photos of her kids in the buff (“The Daily Show,” Amy Silverman, August 14). Schneider hopes the opening reception for her new exhibit, “Scenes,” will be markedly quieter. The display includes “intuitive” shots Schneider took of her kids over the past eight years – and this time, they’re generally clothed. “I hope this show will be seen as a complex view of childhood, reflecting the joy of discovery as well as the vulnerability and darkness,” says Schneider, “all of which are a part of being a child.”
