One can live for a very long time and never fully recover from the pleasure of having heard a big fuzzy puppet monster singing about internet porn. And not just because “The Internet is for Porn” is, like much of the rest of Avenue Q’s score, so dang catchy. But because this show – the now-famous coming-of-age parable wrapped around a satire of kiddie shows and told in song by puppets and live actors – is such fun to watch.
Phoenix Theatre’s Little Theatre production features some local talent, who were trained to puppeteer by founding members of Avenue Q’s original cast. No one had to train them to sing or perform, and so such gems as “It Sucks to Be Me” and “I’m Not Wearing Underwear Today” will certainly sparkle in this hometown Equity version.
Wednesdays-Sundays; Tue., March 8. Starts: Feb. 23. Continues through March 20, 2011
