Of all the descriptors you could assign to Arizona’s canal system, we’re willing to bet “beautiful” wouldn’t make the top 10. In spite of that, Scottsdale Public Art is making a habit of transforming Scottsdale’s Waterfront into a wonderfully immersive art installation with its annual event Canal Convergence.

The main feature of the four-day event is from UK-based artists Aether and Hemera, who will flood the canal with their installation Voyage. It includes 300 small sailboat-looking pieces that float and light up. Also in the mix will be works from artists Joy Holland, Tomiko Jones, and Gabriel Pecina, in addition to food trucks, an arts market, and live music.

The pieces of Canal Convergence collide at 4420 North Scottsdale Road, Thursday, November 7, through Sunday, November 10. Hours are 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free. Visit www.scottsdalepublicart.org.

Thu., Nov. 7, 5-10 p.m.; Fri., Nov. 8; Sat., Nov. 9; Sun., Nov. 10, 2013
