If you’ve ever taken a basic art class, chances are you know your way around a paintbrush and a tube of acrylic. But what about the not-so-mainstream mediums? In an effort to expand your creative endeavors, Tempe’s Utrecht Art Supplies offers a free art demonstration — and this week’s medium has us absolutely melting.

On Saturday, May 18, at 1 p.m., Utrecht will offer up the free demo, Getting Started with Encaustics. Led by local artist Beth Kramer, this crash course in encaustics will teach you how to choose and use wax mediums in your art. Whether you’re a painter, photographer, sketch artist, or anything else, Kramer will show you how the versatile art of painting with wax can up the creative ante on your visual art pieces.
