Barbecue and baseball — that’s what Surprise does! Combine two of our nation’s greatest pastimes at the Surprise Barbecue Festival held March 3 at the Surprise Recreation Complex.
While college teams crack their bats across the way, more than 30 BBQ squads from across the country will cook up their best chicken, pork, ribs, and brisket for char-grilled supremacy as well as $10,000 in prize money. Live music, cooking demonstrations, and a tasting of more than 50 whiskeys will be available, along with, of course, samples of the slow-cooked competition. When you’re done stuffing face, walk your rib sauce-slathered mug to the nearby fields, take in some baseball, and breathe in the America.
Sat., March 3, 11 a.m.-7 p.m., 2012
Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $17,250 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
