One might assume that a play involving two people who awaken in a strange mountaintop house surrounded by water and wearing someone else’s clothing is going to end up treacly — one of those tales with an exasperating windup involving dead people and Heaven. But when the playwright is Lee Blessing, author of Eleemosynary and A Walk in the Woods, that sort of hackneyed ending seems unlikely.The bonus material in Blessing’s A Body of Water — the story of Moss and Avis, who have no idea how they got where they’ve awakened to find themselves — involves a stranger in a jogging suit who’s there to accuse them of murdering their own 11-year-old daughter. Did they?
Directed by Bonnie Eckard, this production of Blessing’s memory play features performances by local stalwarts Janice Robillard and David Vining, two more reasons to keep it on your pre-holiday calendar.
