It’s disappointing that folks around here aren’t connected with the city’s redneck roots. Honestly, what happened to all of the cowboy hats, big-ass belt buckles, and cowboys towing their Border Collies around town in the beds of their pickup trucks?
Though you might not find a complete invasion of real America at Long Wong’s at the Firehouse, it’s trying to do its part every Tuesday during Desert Heat. The eve showcases Charlie Shooter and guests playing old-timey country-and-western music (the good stuff, like Hank Williams and Patsy Cline) as well as prize giveaways and $2.50 jars of whiskey (yes, jars; please try not to be like the original Hank and drink yourself into a never-wake-up-again coma). There are also discounts on piss-quality Miller High Life and PBR to go along with the down-home tunes.
Tuesdays, 8 p.m. Starts: May 18. Continues through July 31, 2010
