Keep Phoenix New Times Free
We’re aiming to raise $10,000 by April 26. Your support ensures New Times can continue watching out for you and our community. No paywall. Always accessible. Daily online and weekly in print.
Phoenix is fortunate to be home to plenty of awesome poets who are unfamous and, often, nearly jobless — we get to enjoy them while they still have time for us. But when you’re in the mood for a little hoity-toity crème de la crème, you can’t get much creamier than Pulitzer Prize nominee and University of Minnesota professor Ray Gonzalez, whose prolific output of prose poems is influenced by his Latino roots, desert life, rock music, jazz, and all the wild highs and lows of American culture.
Gonzalez is presently in residency at ASU’s Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing, and we non-academic types can bask in his light at a free reading and book signing at 7:45 p.m. Monday.
