Show us your ink! MARKED is our new series where we
ask locals of all ages, professions and backgrounds to roll up their
sleeves, pant legs, and so much more to reveal their marks. Here are
their stories:
Name: Zachary Parker
Age: (now and when you got the tattoo): currently 17, when I got tattoo, 16 (Zachary’s mom, Tricia Parker, wrote this piece in the New Times Resolution Guide about letting Zachary get a tattoo before he turned 18.)
My Arm Piece: Is a modified Caduceus (a staff wrapped by two snakes in a helix with wings behind it). One snake was turned into a banner and the other snake was enlarged and made vicious.
I refused to wear a medical ID bracelet for years and at diabetes camp some of my counselors had tattoos showing their diabetes for paramedics. I decided if I was to get one I would want it to be exciting and noticeable not just text somewhere
See more of Zachary’s mark after the jump …
Next tattoo? I have a few ideas for further tattoos. One would be a cuff on my left arm that says diabetic in various languages. The other is of a tree holy to the Norse religion called Yggdrasil. I would get this from my left knee up to just below the armpit.
