Zia Record Exchange is going into the book business.

New Times confirmed today that the Zia location at 2510 West Thunderbird Road is expanding its operations and opening a bookstore. They bought the two existing spaces next to the music shop, and are currently in the process of expanding the current storefront into an indie-centric music and literature megastore.

The book side of the biz will work like the record store in terms of the trading and buying of new and/or used merch. According to Zia’s Eric Becker, they’ve already amassed an impressive catalog of tomes. “We’re not testing the waters with this. We’re going full force,” he says.

As of the time this post was published, there wasn’t a set-in-stone opening date, but Becker estimates that the new bookstore should be good to go sometime within the month.
