A Peek at This Weekend's Melrose on 7th Avenue Street Fair and Car Show

Ten years ago, merchants from Seventh Avenue created a street fair to commemorate some safety changes to the area and to prove to the public that Seventh Avenue was a clean, safe place to live, work and play.

Back then, the fair consisted of a few booths, a few classic cars and a few hundred people.

What a difference a decade makes.

Ten years later, the Melrose District will host its Melrose on 7th Avenue Street Fair and Classic Car Show on March 5 with hundreds of booths, cars, and visitors.

If you stop by this weekend, you can expect music (Stinkweeds' stage is hosting some favorite local bands like Rasta Farmers and Fatigo), plenty of food (some of the city's favorite food trucks), and of course, a street full of vendors with goods and services.

Kids clothes from vintage and recycled items.

Sugar skulls and other Day of the Dead inspired accessories.

You can always count on loads of glitter and fun stuff from local crafting celeb, Kathy Cano-Murillo. Now she also has a new fiction book (Miss Scarlet's School of Patternless Sewing) hitting the stands.

5) Flipped Bird
Totes, messenger bags, clutches, beach bags and hats -- all in fun fabrics.

6) SpaceCadet Jewelry
Funky jewelry and accessories made from mostly recycled and vintage materials.

7) Starving Artist Bazaar
Glass beads inspired by "marbles, microbiology, [and} science fiction" make for interesting and organic-looking jewelry.

8) Sticker Club Girl

Local crafting favorite, Lisa Jacobs makes tees, purses, jewelry.

9) Strawberry Hedgehog
A vegan beauty product company featuring homemade soaps.

10) Urban Adornments
Handmade jewelry and accessories made from reclaimed materials and things from nature: shark teeth, flowers and animal inspiration.

The Melrose on 7th Avenue Street Fair and Classic Car Show is Saturday, March 5 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on 7th Avenue between Indian School and Campbell.
