Punk rock is largely considered to be a big city phenomenon, born out of such urban wastelands as New York, Los Angeles, and Detroit. So when a band like the fearsome Oklahoma foursome The Boom Bang rise from the utter hickdom of the Sooner State, its a bit unexpected.
Tackling political issues with humor and chutzpah, the group creates clamorously upbeat punk thats packed with surf hooks and garage rock-style distortion. While Dead Kennedys had Holiday in Cambodia, The Boom Bang has Vietnomnomnom, an infectious track from their latest album, World War Fun. And fun it is, as the bands sound (described as what happens when youve listened to Andrew W.K. since 2001) is catchy as hell.
