It’s hard to think of Phoenix as historic. While there has been a community of some sort in the Valley since the late 1800s, older structures were routinely demolished to make way for “progress.” Given the endless suburban sprawl and copycat strip malls on every other corner, what historic structures remain often get overlooked among the conventional clutter. Yet, the Reincarnation Tour, presented by the Phoenix Metro component of the American Institute of Architects, highlights a number of historic downtown buildings that have been repurposed into art galleries, restaurants, concert halls, and living spaces. The five-hour tour kicks off at Bragg’s Pie Factory, 1301 Grand Avenue, and concludes at the Crescent Ballroom, 308 North Second Avenue. Each stop features discussions with local project architects. Additionally, a presentation titled “Transforming the Urban Environment” will take place.
