Susan Lowell’s The Three Little Javelinas has been a popular kids’ book since its 1992 debut. The story transplants the original little pig characters to the North American Southwest, introduces legendary trickster Coyote as the villain, and throws in some gender diversity.
Now it’s a musical play, The Three Javelinas, for audiences age 5 and older, and Childsplay entertains us with a production through Sunday, May 24, at Tempe Center for the Arts, 700 West Rio Salado Parkway. Whether they’re wild javelinas or domesticated — but still feisty — pigs, it’s good to see our swine brethren getting some celebrity somewhere other than a plate. On Sunday, April 19, the show starts at 4 p.m. For tickets, $12 to $25, call 480-350-2822 or visit www.childsplayaz.org.

At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $15,500 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
