Childsplay Presents: The Three Javelinas

Susan Lowell’s The Three Little Javelinas has been a popular kids’ book since its 1992 debut. The story transplants the original little pig characters to the North American Southwest, introduces legendary trickster Coyote as the villain, and throws in some gender diversity.

Now it’s a musical play, The Three Javelinas, for audiences age 5 and older, and Childsplay entertains us with a production through Sunday, May 24, at Tempe Center for the Arts, 700 West Rio Salado Parkway. Whether they’re wild javelinas or domesticated -- but still feisty -- pigs, it’s good to see our swine brethren getting some celebrity somewhere other than a plate. On Sunday, April 19, the show starts at 4 p.m. For tickets, $12 to $25, call 480-350-2822 or visit

Sat., April 25, 1 & 4 p.m.; Sun., April 26, 1 p.m., 2015
