No matter how urban the environment or sprawling the cityscape, every county fair is packed with local flavor. From livestock exhibitions to horticultural displays, Ferris wheels to roller coasters, jugglers and magicians to live concerts, such far-reaching fun is the joy of the Maricopa County Fair. While there are big events aplenty, the fair’s real flair lies in the exhibitions of the best pies and jams and jellies — plus such produce as beets, carrots, chile peppers, and herbs in the horticultural tent. The fair also offers a petting zoo, plus displays of local sheep, goats, rabbits, pigs and cows. New this year is a kangaroo exhibit that also features birds and lizards from Down Under.
