Ballet is for rich white folks. Interpretive dance is for freaky hippie types. Those are the myths that visual artist Lee Berger, professional choreographer Candy Jimenez, and composer Jimmy Cerracchio want to dispel with their modern-dance performance Pensive Beauty. The nine-movement ballet includes music by electronic-acoustic rock band Azul and impressionist-art backdrops that change throughout the show. “We have created a fresh take on ballet using athletic and sensual dance, complex romantic musical arrangements, and stunning modern visuals,” says Cerracchio. “We like to call it post-modern romanticism.”

We prefer to think of it as “interpretive dance minus the suck factor.”
