You know, it just wouldn’t be Art Detour Weekend without the Mutant Piñata Show at Bragg’s Pie Factory. Curator Beatrice Moore delighted the Detour audience when she initially launched this exhibition in 2008. Now, in its third year, it’s fast become one of our very favorite shows to cover.

The highly imaginative exhibition features an explosion of local artists’ creations with piñatas in every crazy color, unexpected shape and ridiculous theme imaginable (yes, there has even been some piñata nudity in the past).

This year, we got a sneak peek as our web editor, Jonathan McNamara, popped in and snapped a slide show (click here for an eyeful) to give us a quick taste of what this year’s piñata participants have come up with.

The Mutant Piñata Show is at Bragg’s Pie Factory, 1301 West Grand Avenue and is open this weekend, Friday, March 5 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, March 6 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, March 7 from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Visit the facebook page here.
