It looks like ComicX in Phoenix is hanging up its cape and cowl for good. The comic book-themed restaurant, bar and geek hangout at Desert Ridge Marketplace has announced it will close its doors on Feb. 23 after five years in business.

Holy heartbreak, Batman!

News of ComicX’s impending demise was announced Saturday on its Instagram account.

The announcement read in part: “After years of serving amazing food, sharing unforgettable moments, and building a community of incredible fans, ComicX Phoenix will be closing its doors for the last time on Sunday, February 23rd. We can’t thank you enough for your support, your laughter, and the countless memories we’ve created together. From family dinners to birthday celebrations, from casual visits to epic nights out — you’ve made ComicX a truly special place, and we are forever grateful.”

The reasons for ComicX’s closure were not specified.

ComicX first opened in December 2019 at Desert Ridge Marketplace in north Phoenix, quickly becoming a go-to spot for geeks in the Valley.

The 8,000-square-foot theme restaurant was renowned for its nerdy atmosphere, from its slogan (“Where superheroes grab a bite”) and its pop culture-inspired menu to its decor filled with life-sized statues of Thor, Darth Vader, The Incredible Hulk and numerous other iconic characters.

Other geeky touches located throughout ComicX, the only comic book-themed restaurant in the U.S., include a video gaming area inspired by "Pac-Man," an urban cityscape straight out of Marvel Comics and a "Star Wars"-themed seating area on its second floor.

ComicX also hosted a variety of geek-friendly events and activities over the years, including costume parties, trivia nights and meet-and-greets with characters and celebrities.

In October 2022, for instance, actors Tom Guiry, Marty York and Victor DiMattia from the beloved 1993 baseball classic “The Sandlot” signed autographs and posed for pictures during an appearance at the restaurant.
