It’s rather tiresome how people (journalists, especially) try to pigeonhole music into one distinct flavor of the month, like, “Ya know, it’s electronic shoegazer grape rockabilly.” That’s why Phoenix’s Courtney Marie Andrews and her sweet strains are such a breath of fresh air. Andrews’ acoustic alt-folk and clear, endearing vocals hark back to a time when radio stations played more than five songs in a day and a genre of music could be summed up with a single word. Courtney’s style is no-frills, but she does what she does really well. See for yourself at the release party for her new album, Urban Myths. In her down-home, lo-fi style, Andrews advertises, “We will be serving hot tea! Bring a pillow!”
