Apocalypse Diaw: Phoenix Suns Host Boris, Charlotte Bobcats Tonight

Last Thursday, in one blink of Amar’e Stoudemire’s bum eye, the Phoenix Suns’ playoff chances took a sucker punch to the gut. Most people’s first thought: “Oh. Crap.” Most people’s second thought: “Oh. Crap. We traded away Boris Diaw.” Our second thought: “Oh. Crap. Most people are gonna say we…

A New York Times article discusses the ties between crime in Mexico and crime in Arizona. In the story, officials including Arizona attorney general Terry Goddard talk about how the Mexican drug trade and illegal immigration has led to murders, kidnappings, and home invasions (surprisingly, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio…

The hillbillies are coming! The hillbillies are coming! And no that’s not Phoenix’s new line of do-it-yourself redneck porn. Nah, by hillbillies, I mean convicted public urinators like Buffalo Rick Galeener, alleged bookstore trespassers such as Anna Gaines (aka, the “anti-Hispanic Hispanic”), massage parlor owners, toothless ne’er-do-wells, assorted Hells Angels…

WrestleMania, the Super Bowl of Wrestling, Coming to Glendale; Announcement Expected Tomorrow

We received an e-mail stating that World Wrestling Entertainment will be holding a press conference tomorrow afternoon at the stadium to announce a “major international event” occuring there in spring 2010 that will “draw visitors from around the world for five days of activities.” Although the e-mail doesn’t specifically identify the event (and only names the WWE in the subject line), we’re fairly certain it’s next year’s Wrestlemania 26. After all, the yearly grappling extravaganza and pay-per-view is the only such event that the WWE puts on during the spring. A similar press conference is held every year around this time announcing where WrestleMania is heading next.

In looking at records on deaths in state prisons last year for our post about the homicides, we couldn’t help but notice the large number of Hepatitis-C-related deaths among prisoners. Arizona Department of Corrections records show 75 natural-cause deaths, three suicides, two homicides and fourteen “pending” cases of 2008 prisoner…

Skull and Bones, Pancho Villa’s Head, and a Possible Phoenix Connection?

Curiosity’s driven me to write a little follow-up to my post Wednesday about the WASPy wieners at Skull and Bones being sued by the heirs of the Apache warrior Geronimo. They’re suing because it’s rumored that Yale’s secret society has possession of Geronimo’s skull, you see. According to legend, George W. Bush’s grandpappy…
