Phoenix has always been a tough restaurant town: too many square miles, too many chains and too many white-bread diners with prosaic palates. And then there’s summer — 100+ days of 100+ temperatures — enough to fill the pluckiest of restaurateurs with dread.

But at least indie restaurant owners have the luxury of deciding whether it’s worth staying open through the torturous dog days or whether it might make sense to take a break and close up shop for a few days, a few weeks or maybe even a month to relax, re-think, re-tool and re-energize.
Here’s an alphabetical list of metro-Phoenix favorites that will be closed for a time — or open only on specific days — or open only at certain hours — this summer. Plan accordingly.
Beckett’s Table: July 1 through July 8
Binkley’s Restaurant: July 1 though July 31
Café Bink: Closed Mondays and no Saturday pig roast until October
Cork: July 1 through July 31
Crepe Bar: Except for monthly themed dinners (check Facebook for details), dinner service has stopped for the summer. Summer Hours: 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
Crudo: July 1 through 21
Essence Bakery Café: June 30 through July 15
FnB: July 2 through July 8; Closed July 9 for lunch only. Otherwise, regular hours in July. Closed Sunday, Monday, Tuesday in August.
Geordie’s at Wrigley Mansion: July 1 through July 31 (but open for private events/parties)
The House at Secret Garden: July 1 through July 31
House of Tricks: July 7 through July 31
The Bistro at Kokopelli Winery: Closed for renovation. Re-opening in September, according to their Facebook page.
Market Street Kitchen: Lunch service halted Monday through Thursday until September (still offered Friday and Saturday; Sunday brunch has just started, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Pearl Sushi Lounge, Scottsdale only: July 1 through July 31; shuttle available from Pearl Scottsdale to Pearl Chandler; call Chandler location for details.
Posh Improvisational Cuisine: June 30-July 8
Rancho Pinot: June 30 through July 31
Razz’s Restaurant: Closes every summer from mid-June to about the second week in August.
Sassi: June 30 through July 8.
