Have you ever wanted to go to the voting booths completely sloshed — if nothing else, just to forget how lousy your choices are? We’re pretty sure there’s some sort of legal issue there, so don’t bother. You can, however, enjoy some vino with your voting at the 2010 Arizona Wine Awards sponsored by Whole Foods.
Twenty-two Arizona wines (11 red and 11 white) were submitted by vineyards across the state. Now the folks at Whole Foods are putting it to a public vote to determine the best red and the best white in Arizona.
Sample each of the nominated wines and vote for your favorite from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, June 12 at the Whole Foods store at 7111 E. Mayo Blvd. in Scottsdale. Cost is $10.

Winemakers and growers will be on-hand to discuss their wines and presumably try to convince you why theirs is a winner (We can just imagine the campaign buttons — “Vote for Pillsbury: It’s not about the dough, boy!” or “I’ve got a krush on Kokopelli!”).
Head over to the new Scottsdale store at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9 for a preview of the awards, with 5 wine samples from among the finalists. Cost is $5. Visit the Whole Foods website to register.
