From now ’til we publish the 2012 edition of Best of Phoenix, New Times and Chow Bella present 100 Tastemakers — Valley residents who make the cut in our culinary scene. Some you’ll know; for others, it’ll be a first introduction (but likely not the last). While you’re here, check out our 100 Creatives on Jackalope Ranch.

Today: A woman who likes to take it slow.

Tastemaker 34: Pamela Hamilton

Pamela Hamilton is the editor and publisher of Edible Phoenix magazine, a quarterly guide to seasonal, local and sustainable food. She’s a major proponent of Slow Food and an avid cookbook collector.

I arrived in Phoenix with… high expectations. On a previous visit I’d dined at Roxsand and was impressed with the quality of the ingredients and the creativity.

If I was sitting down to dinner for six, my five dream dining companions would be… Danny Meyer and my food-obsessed book club. We’re reading his classic “Setting the Table: The Transforming Power of Hospitality in Business” as our October selection.

One place everyone who comes to Phoenix must eat is…. a restaurant that purchases food from local suppliers and cooks it with passion and care (such as the ones highlighted in our “Eat Local Guide”.) Oh and they have to visit a farmers market too!

One menu item this city could do without is… chain restaurant fast food.

My last meal in Phoenix would be… at a long table filled with farm fresh ingredients, Arizona wine, good friends, a freshly roasted pig and home made bread. And not during our “hot” season.
