Tastemaker 49: Duc Liao
Step inside Scratch Pastries in Scottsdale and you’ll know you’ve found a little piece of somewhere far away. Duc Liao is originally from Paris, France and after 25 years in high-end fashion photography, he gave up the Louis Vuitton lifestyle to start serving fabulous French fare in the Valley. Scratch will mediate your sweet tooth needs with dainty French pastries galore and while you’re enjoying the snack, browse over some of Liao’s other work at his personal website. They’ll be opening another restaurant in Downtown Phoenix, hopefully by this fall.
I arrived in Phoenix with… love.
If I was sitting down to dinner for six, my five dream dining companions would be… St. Michael (patron of justice), St. Joseph (patron of carpentry), St. Honore (patron of patisserie/boulangerie), St. Marthe (patron of hotel & cooks), and St. Jeff (patron of LUX coffee).
One place everyone who comes to Phoenix must eat is… a picnic at night light [Knight Rise] from James Turrel and SMoCA.
One menu item this city could do without is… factory-made food.
My last meal in Phoenix would be…Terminal 4, Sky Harbor.
