When hungry Arizona Diamondbacks fans step up to order a bite at one of the food stands peppered around Chase Field, they’ll find dozens of new dishes on offer on opening day.

Much like the players, Major League Baseball chefs have taken the off-season to prepare. As fans return to the downtown ballpark, buckets of nachos, foot-long corn dogs and family meal packs brimming with massive hoagies or barbecue await.

“This is probably our biggest undertaking that we’ve done yet,” Chase Field executive chef Stephen Tilder says. “I think last I counted we’re hitting right around 50 new items in concessions.”

Here’s a taste of what’s new at Chase Field.

Barbecue Feasts

D-Backs BBQ Alley, Section 114
If you want to eat like the Diamondbacks front office, head to D-Backs BBQ Alley in Section 114. The barbecue there is so good that Derrick Hall, the Diamondbacks’ president, CEO and general partner, jokes he eats it nightly. The Barbecue Brigade brings burnt ends, a pulled pork-loaded baked potato, St. Louis-style ribs, coleslaw, mac and cheese, pickles and barbecue sauce together in one massive family meal that’s “meant for sharing,” Tilder says. D-Backs BBQ Alley diners can also opt for loaded bowls of mac and cheese topped with burnt ends or pulled pork and barbecue sauce.

There’s the Big Bella, a meaty mortadella sandwich on focaccia, and a hot pastrami hoagie at Jefferson Street Deli. Hungry groups can split the 50/50 Stretch, a 20-inch baguette loaded with chicken parm on one half and pastrami on the other. The sandwich and kettle chips get packaged into a portable cardboard carrier. Taste of Chase will serve a BBQ Philly, while the club-level’s Grand Canyon Grill will cook a Chicken Parm Grilled Cheese.

Choose from vegetarian fajita, pork carnitas or beef barbacoa to top the mound of nacho cheese-coated chips. Head to Red Hot Grill for a bucket of Snake Bite Nachos, topped with chorizo, white cheese and venom sauce for a kick. Don’t forget to take a home run-style lap if you hit the rotation and try all four.
