Number 75: Char siu bao at Phoenix Palace

Chandler’s top dim sum spot brings countless irresistible Cantonese dishes from a parade of staff who wheel carts of hot food straight out of the kitchen. From gai lan drizzled with oyster sauce to shrimp siu mai to delicate egg tarts, there are too many things to eat in one sitting. Of course, it’s always fun to try.

The char siu bao are essential, though. Steamed, fluffy white buns have the faintest hint of sweetness, breaking open to reveal a savory-sweet heart of barbecued pork. “Meat candy” is always what comes to mind whenever I bite into one of these.
