Number 80: Escargots En Croute at Petite Maison
Snails are a rare treat in the Valley. Rarer still are snails so tasty that it’s impossible not to order them.
Such is the case with Petite Maison’s escargots en croute, which are as appealing as the restaurant itself — tiny, pretty little delicacies served up in a tiny, pretty little restaurant where the French country vibe is a far cry from the thumpin’ nightclubs around the block. I come here to relax, drink wine, and, inevitably, eat this classic appetizer. So far, they’ve never let me down.
Plump snails are doused in butter and herbs and garlic, with a splash of Pernot. Then they’re baked underneath round poufs of flaky pastry, which add even more buttery decadence. Magnifique.
