If you’ve ever tried to order a nice bottle of French wine, or an interesting/different grape varietal, or one of many wines that has it’s own language written on the bottle, you’ve probably just pointed at the name and prayed you aren’t asked to pronounce it.
Well, have no fear. Below are some great resources for pronouncing some of wines’ most difficult words. Just bear in mind that you may sound more ridiculous pronouncing the word the right way rather than the wrong way…

Ok, I couldn’t resist — that was clearly not the proper way to pronounce Châteauneuf-du-Pape … But it does jokingly bring up a good point — some of these words will sound ridiculous, regardless if you pronounce them correctly or not. So don’t stress if you’re accent isn’t perfect or if you draw a smirk, and remember — you can always use the point method to order.
