Menus are calling cards for restaurants. There’s no denying that their designs — from colors, to typefaces, to imagery — can tell us a lot about who they are, perhaps even evoking a little emotion.
Under Consideration, a graphic design firm, wanted to pay homage to those menus they felt did this the best, so they started a blog called “Art of the Menu.” From a range of restaurants from around the world, the designers selected menus like Chicago’s State and Lake (for it’s burnt wood look), Brooklyn’s Five Leaves (for its Rococo-ish typography), and Ministro 1153 in San Paulo, Brazil, (for its part trendy, part vintage look), proving that good menu design, from diners to upscale establishments, can be found anywhere.
