Each year, Taco Bell brings back its Bacon Club Chalupa. Then, after altering our lives forever, quietly discontinues it.

Some might say it’s TB’s way of creating excitement (a la the McRib) to Bell-bitin’ fans eagerly anticipating the next wave of bacon-style chalupa-mania. But methinks the Bell’s painted themselves into a coin-saving corner.

$2.60 for this? As Taco Bell says, “Why Pay More!”

Hey, I didn’t come up with Taco Bell’s Why Pay More! menu, I just eat off it. Featuring such cheap eats as the Beefy 5-Layer Burrito, grilled chicken burrito, and soft taco for 99 cents, the crunchy taco and mini-quesadilla for 89 cents, and cheese roll-ups for a mere 79 cents, Taco Bell has taught me that I can eat at their establishment for the change I find in my car cup holder. Now they want me to fork over $2.60 for a Chalupa with bacon? No wonder it’s offered for only a limited time — I ain’t no millionaire.

$30,000

Maybe if it was worth it, maybe, but it isn’t. The equivalent of eating a bad chicken salad with too-tangy sauce and rock-hard bac-o-bits in a chewy bread nest, your money’s better spent back at the budget menu. At least there, you truly get what you pay for.
