It was after a game of poker with some friends that it happened. A remaining bowl of cheese puffs sat, ignored, on the counter. The bet was $12 to finish the entire bowl in 5 minutes. The time started and I shoved fistfuls of cheese puffs into my mouth and like Kobayashi and his Nathan’s hot dogs, I swallowed them with the help of a little water. Three minutes later the cheese puffs were gone and there was $12 in my pocket.
I shared this story to illustrate how impressive the Sasquatch Burger at The Lodge is. I can pound a bowl of cheese puffs, but can I handle a massive hamburger sandwiched by two grilled cheese sandwiches? There’s only one way to find out.
Food Critic Michele Laudig on The Lodge:
It’s called the Sasquatch Burger, and it’s as gargantuan as the name implies. When I posted a blog item about it on Chow Bella earlier this year, I knew I was on to something when the entry got tens of thousands of Web hits. In this era of “extreme” food, people really do love — or hate — over-the-top burgers.
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $17,250 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back. Intrigued? Wait, there’s more: Rather than putting the Angus beef patty in an ordinary hamburger bun, they put it between two whole grilled cheese sandwiches, along with even more cheese, bacon, and fried onions. And instead of a dainty toothpick to hold it all together, there’s a big steak knife stabbed right into the middle of it, as if someone in the kitchen had to run out and hunt down a Sasquatch to fill your order.
Will you step up to support New Times this year?
