Mi Nana’s Salsa Challenge is coming up Saturday, April 28th at Tempe Beach Park from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., and the organizers want you to whip up a batch of your famous salsa to compete for a $1000 cash prize and to get featured on Macayo’s menu this summer during their Salsa Fest promotion.

This is the 28th year of the Mi Nana’s Salsa Challenge supporting the Arizona Hemophilia Association. The first 75 contestants to register will receive a $50 gift card from Fry’s — a nice way to help pay for your ingredients. The contestant’s salsas will be judged on aroma, consistency, appropriate heat level, color, taste and after-taste. Contestants will be asked to prepare a whopping 13 gallons of salsa fresh on-site.

In addition to the Grand Champion award, “trophies will be given for first, second and third place in the hot and mild category for business, restaurant and individual. Awards will also be given for Best Booth, Best in Show, People’s Choice and Biggest Fundraiser.”

More information can be found on hemophiliaz.org or by calling the Hemophilia Association at (602) 955-3947.
