The Centers for Disease Control is recalling certain types of chia seed powder after it has been linked outbreaks of three strains of salmonella in 12 states. With one reported chia seed-related illness in Arizona, check your pantries for the following brands of chia seeds.

Recalled chia seed powder brands include Navitas Naturals, Green Smoothie Girl, Williams and Sonoma, and Health Matters America. For a full list of recalled products, visit the CDC’s website. The CDC recommends that you throw these products away or return them immediately.

Twelve states, including New York and California, have reported salmonella cases due to the sprouted, organic chia seed powder. New York has the most reported illnesses, with four cases. Only one case has been reported so far in Arizona. Symptoms of infection include cramping and fever.
