Keep Phoenix New Times Free
We’re aiming to raise $10,000 by April 26. Your support ensures New Times can continue watching out for you and our community. No paywall. Always accessible. Daily online and weekly in print.
What a great idea: Foodies volunteering for a good cause. Get a little dirt under your fingernails, enjoy good company, and you’ll even get fed.
This Saturday, from 8 a.m. to noon, the local Slow Food convivium will join others around the country for a “Dig In!,” where they’ll “break ground and break bread” in the spirit of community building.
The day’s project is a school garden at Hidden Hills Elementary School, where there’s a lot to be done to prepare for fall plantings. Lend a hand, and then enjoy a lunch buffet with other volunteers. Whether you feel like pulling weeds, sweeping, cleaning, making repairs, or helping to make lunch, the group would welcome the extra help. Check out the above website for more info about volunteer duties.
