Amid a flurry of new restaurant openings on Mill Avenue, Downtown Tempe welcomes yet another newcomer — Diverti Bar & Grill — whose grand opening is today.
Remember the short-lived Sucker Punch Sally’s, which didn’t last six months in the former Ruby Tuesday’s at the corner of Mill Avenue and University? Now it’s home to Diverti, and what I hear are amazing hand-cut fries (according to one of my food spies).
A friendly dude name Jersey is the restaurant manager, who filled me in on some of the menu items, since the restaurant doesn’t have a website yet (although some basic info is on Facebook). The house specialty is overstuffed sandwiches heaped with coleslaw and fries — yes, the coleslaw and fries are toppings! — as well as wings, sweet potato tots, pizzas, and more. The “Clevelander” is a sausage patty topped with sauteed onions, green peppers, and provolone on a hoagie roll, while the “Chadwick” is a burger with bbq sauce, cheddar, bacon, onions rings, lettuce, and tomato.
Located at 4 E. University, Diverti’s is open from 10:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. (a late-night menu is available from 10 p.m.). For more info, call 480-284-5972.
